VS2008 recently RTM'd, and if you'd like a *free* copy, be sure to hook up with your local user group. Here in the Carolinas, I'll be touring several groups with hundreds of copies of VS 2008 Pro. Check out the schedule:
Today, 12/4: Piedmont Triad User Group. (
www.ptnug.org)
Monday, 12/10: Charlotte Enterprise Developers Guild (
www.developersguild.org)
Tuesday, 12/11: Pee Dee .NET User Group (
www.pdanug.net)
Wednesday, 12/12: Triangle .NET User Group (
www.trinug.org)
Last I heard, Charlotte and Raleigh 'sold out' in 2 days or less! (But hey, I can try to sneak you in.) Now, I've been asked a few times if I'll be raffling off 1 or 2 copies --and the answer is no! My intent is to give _everyone_ who attends a copy of VS2008 Pro. Of course, I don't have unlimited copies so registration is typically required, and in the event I do run out, I have some backup items, too.
Joe Healy posted a great primer for the install fest here:
http://www.devfish.net/fullblogitemview.aspx?blogid=469Joe outlines all the steps you should follow to prepare for the installation. If you're like me, you've got tons of pre-release bits, alphas, betas, etc. Before installing and before attending the install fest, check out his post!
