20/20 Week 15 Results

This morning I completed 20/20 Phase I.  The program has been a lot of work, but at the same time, I can't believe it's already been 4 months.  Wow!Now that I'm into Phase II, the program changes a bit, however, I'm still continuing in a Phase I mindset.  I'd like to continue to lose weight and get in better shape, so Phase II (for me) is more about making sure I can do this on my own. Here are some stats after the first part of the program:Weight Lost75 lbs.Body Age*28BMI-10 points!Cholestero... Random Recruitment Thoughts

Every once in awhile I'll stumble upon various posts that I'll have an opinion on, but won't bother blogging or otherwise commenting on.  I've seen a few posts lately that got me thinking, so I figured a consolidated post was in order.  Eric recently blogged about some technical questions (such as Big-O and data structures) during a Microsoft Interview (generally targeting industry pros who have been in the field for awhile):http://blogs.msdn.com/jobsblog/archive/2006/07/18/670121.aspx<snip>... Protected From Medieval Spyware

I'm a fan of OneCare, and here's why: it's simple, and includes a 3-computer license.  The "all in one" functionality is especially useful for machines I rarely log into ... so, tonight, while checking one of the machines, I couldn't help but notice my spyware definitions were a tad out of date:It's especially ironic that the default icon for Windows Defender is a castle! OK, it's amusing, but makes sense for computer geeks.  In fact, when calling File.GetLastWriteTime() in .NET, this date is retu... [More]

Microsoft Acquires Sysinternals

Wow ... I don't know why I'm surprised at this one, but Microsoft just acquired Winternals/Sysinternals.  I'm anxious to see what happens to the awesome tools they develop.

Glacier Demo Site

Several weeks ago I launched the Glacier info site (http://www.glacierlogging.com) -- Glacier is an electronic logbook designed to replace paper logs and generally targeted at technical facilities or plants.  At last, I've got the demo site running.  Check out the demo at this link.  Use "demo" for both the username and password.  If you're not sure what Glacier is all about, check out the info site for more information.  There's several screenshots and product info, but with the de... 20/20 Week 10 Update

Today I had my 10 week check-in for the 20/20 program.  My total calorie count over the program has been below what my nutritionist would like to see, but still acceptable.  (The big problem I have is keeping the fat down ... carbs are reduced greatly and my biggest concern, so unless I'm eating chicken or fish all day, I'm running out of options.)  In my case, I've been exercising a lot more than anticipated or expected, so the progress has been real good.  At week 10, I'm down about 53... Zen Vision:M

Despite working behind enemy lines, when it comes to personal purchases, I'll buy what I feel is best suited for my needs.  In this case, I was looking for a good MP3 player.  It needed to store a large amount of music, and if it could do video, all the better.  Several weeks ago, with many hours to spend on a plane (and, although I didn't know it at the time, many, many hours spent in an airport), I was leaning more towards a video model as it would pass the time more quickly.I almost went f... First Scoble, now Bill

Billg announced today a two year transition plan to step down to a part time position -- and Ray Ozzie stepping up as chief software architect.  Wow.  Allchin, Scoble, Bill ... so much change.  Change can be a good thing ... but boy, it can be disconcerting.  Much more to come, I'm sure.

Moving Pictures

I was digging through an old box (one that has been packed for several years, at least) trying to find a particular cable.  In the midst of the box, I came across this photo:Very few images (particularly, ones without people in them) will make me stop cold, but this one did.  If you don't recognize it, it's from the top of the World Trade Center, circa 2000.

Watching the Stanley Cup Finals

Period 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals has just started ... what am amazing hockey season it has been.  So while Edmonton and Carolina begin to battle it out in the best of 7 series, pictures of the trophy are plastered on everything.  Every time I see this, I think of a funny moment that happened a number of years ago.The very last day of work I had at Ascent Media (circa 2001) was a couple of weeks before the Superbowl.  Housing a few studios, a Superbowl special had just finished taping. ...
